Energy Efficient Blinds and Shades

Living in Troy, Illinois, means dealing with hot, humid summers and freezing, snowy winters. Fortunately, you can combat these temperature fluctuations by installing energy-efficient blinds and shades on your windows. Window treatments provide an additional shield to weather conditions while seamlessly matching your home’s interior design.

Why Use Blinds and Shades for Home Energy Efficiency?

Windows allow you to enjoy streaming sunlight or afternoon rains, but even double- or triple-pane glass needs help keeping your home cool in the summer and warm in the winter. Blinds or shades provide benefits like:

  • Insulating windows against heat loss
  • Preventing cold drafts
  • Reducing light glares
  • Providing privacy

When your home fights less sunlight and heat loss, your HVAC system won’t need to work as hard to keep your air at your optimum temperature. With less energy used, you can enjoy a lower utility bill and a more comfortable home.

Types of Energy-Efficient Window Treatments

Improve your home’s energy efficiency, style, and functionality by adding any of these window treatments to your home’s interior decorator plans.

Drapes or Curtains

Many homeowners add drapes or curtains to their windows to protect them against excessive sunlight in the home, but these treatments also provide a layer of insulation. Dark curtains help soak up sunlight and warm your home during the winter, while lighter colors reflect sunlight and can help your home stay cool in the summer.

Drapes and curtains come in various sizes, colors, patterns, and textures to cover nearly any window and match any personal style.

Cellular Shades

If you like the idea of curtains but want more function out of them, cellular shades are a popular choice among energy-efficient blinds and shades. Cellular shades consist of specialized fabric designed in a honeycomb shape to insulate your windows against outside temperatures. You can choose from different types of material to suit your preferred thickness, color, and texture.

Roman Shades

If you like the idea of cloth shades that fold into themselves like traditional blinds, Roman shades fit the bill. These shades have wide cloth panels that present a stylish alternative to blinds or roller shades while providing the ability to choose different colors, textures, and patterns. The thicker the fabric you choose, the better chance your Roman shades will insulate your home.

Roller Shades

Roller shades offer similar functions as cellular or Roman shades but roll out flat instead of pulling down in a pattern. You can adjust the height by simply pulling on the bottom of the shade, allowing you to choose how much sunlight to let in. These shades also come in multiple colors and textures, making it easy to find the right one for each room.

Interior Shutters

Interior shutters fit tightly against your window frame to allow for the best amount of light control. Shutters come in various styles and shapes that can fit nearly any window design, making these a highly-customizable window treatment option. Homeowners love interior shutters for their versatility and ability to successfully improve energy efficiency.

Word of mouth is the best advertisement. I totally agree with that statement. Blind Quest was recommended to us by a friend. We purchased plantation shutters for our entire house. Lindell went above and beyond the call of duty in helping us make our decision and Jeremy did a great job on the installation (both were professional and friendly).
